Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Safe Light Initiative launched the KULEHE Project to promote entrepreneurship, vocational training, and financial inclusivity for youth. The event gathered key stakeholders, youth participants, and distinguished guests committed to economic empowerment and sustainable opportunities for young people.
A total of 146 participants attended, including 49 individuals from N/S/L subcity Wereda 11 and 12. 69 registered through an online Google form. Additionally, 28 host and refugee participants represented various backgrounds, including those employed, unemployed, or working in different private sector industries.

Key Highlights from the Event
Ambassador Sileshi Sals Umer, Founder and CEO of SAFE LIGHT INITIATIVE, delivered the opening speech, clearly explaining KULEHE’s vision and how it aligns with ILO’s, EDUKANS’, and SAFE LIGHT INITIATIVE’s goals. Moreover, he emphasized its strong focus on economic empowerment, employment creation, and, most importantly, financial inclusivity.
Guest of honor Gezahegn Lemessa, EDUKANS Country Director, emphasized the organization’s impactful work in Afar and Somali. He also highlighted the critical importance of youth participation. Moreover, he stated, “Programs like KULEHE open doors, but youth must actively seize available opportunities for real transformation.”
Simeon Getnet, Program Head, first introduced the KULEHE Project website, explaining its strong focus on entrepreneurship, vocational training, and financial literacy. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of collaboration, stressing, “Real change happens when institutions empower youth together.”
Helen Zenebe, Founder of Legend Industrial PLC, passionately highlighted the private sector’s crucial role in promoting financial inclusivity. Additionally, She inspired attendees by emphasizing collective growth, stating, “Youth are the light of the next generation—we rise together.”

The panel discussion primarily focused on youth entrepreneurship and its vital role in financial inclusivity and economic independence. Additionally, experts thoroughly addressed key challenges, including barriers to entrepreneurship, financial access, and business sustainability, while also proposing effective solutions.
